Google announced the sunsetting of Universal Analytics (GA3).

Why it matters

The replacement to Universal Analytics is not an upgrade, this means that data that you are relying on to measure your business success will no longer be available after July 1, 2023.  In order to compare data from that point on.  GA4 will need to collect data.  So it is important to start collecting data now from that platform if you haven't already.

Not sure if GA4 is set up and collecting data for you?

What Can You Measure With Analytics?

Pages Visited

What is the most frequently visited page on your website? Use this information to add value to your website visitor.  What are they looking for?  What do they need from your site - give it to them.

Web Traffic

Which traffic channel directs the most users to your site? You will want to make sure that your messaging matches the site that drove them to your page.  You will also want to make sure that that channel continues to point traffic in your direction.

Goals

One of the primary purposes of having a website is to convert visitors to customers.  With analytics you can set up goals and measure your conversions against those goals.  You can understand buyer's journeys and implement changes that reinforces the path to conversion.

Demographics

What demographics make up the visitors to your site?  More often than not, traditional demographics don't match the demographics visiting you on your website.   Do you have an untapped market online?  Use analytics to determine your online demographics.

  • Why Switch To Google Analytics 4?

GA4 offers features like custom dimensions and goals that can help you track more specific aspects of your website's performance. Additionally, it offers enhanced reporting that makes it easier for you to understand your site's traffic patterns and conversions.

  • What is the risk of not installing GA4 now?

If you haven't set up GA4 when Google sunsets GA3 on July 1, 2023, there is a risk that you won't be able to track your website's performance and make informed decisions about marketing strategies. If you're not using GA4, it's important to start running GA4 as soon as possible.

The good news is that you can run both in parallel.  This means that you will be able to see your traditional reports in the short term and start preparing for new data feeds in advance.

  • What are the features of GA4?

    New event-based data collection

    • Collects both website and app data to better understand the customer journey

We recommend running your UA and GA4 in parallel. Google has a GA4 setup wizard assistant that is very helpful and easy to use.

  • How long does it take to migrate to GA4?

It all depends on the complexity of your existing setup. Google does offer a migration tool to assist in the process however, it will take a substantial amount of time for this to be done properly. Ranging from a few weeks to a couple months. We strongly recommend installing GA4 as soon as possible.

  • How do I switch from GA3 to GA4?

We do not suggest switching.  We suggest running both in parallel as Google is still actively updating GA4.

  • How do I know if GA4 is running on my website?

You can use Google Analytics Viewer to check if GA4 is running on your website. The Google Analytics Viewer allows you to see all the data collected by GA4 on your website. Still not sure, schedule a consultation with us today.

GA4 is a completely different analytics solution than Universal Analytics. Universal Analytics is a legacy product that's been discontinued by Google. GA4 was created as a replacement and offers more comprehensive data tracking and reporting capabilities.

With our set of capabilities, we can help you compare and analyze your marketing efforts to determine the true return on investment you’re getting for your budget and make tweaks accordingly.

  • What data does GA4 collect?

GA4 by default captures a large list of user events and interactions with a website/app. From user clicks to video views to geolocation . GA4 also more accurately captures statistical session data than UA. See all of the events collected here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/11593727?hl=en

Do you need to switch to GA4? Need is such a strong word but the short answer is yes. With the sunsetting of UA July 1, 2023 you will no longer be able to leverage insightful, powerful data to drive your business past this date.
